Golden Milk

A couple of years ago on a trip to NYC my husband and I found a warm little bakery-restaurant that served the most delicious turmeric chai latte. I had never had one before and from that day on I searched and searched for this comforting aromatic beverage everywhere. I still haven’t found another bakery, coffee shop or restaurant that makes them!

I since have come across many recipes for golden milk which is a bit similar in the spices used. I’ve tried many, but none of them were just quite right for my liking. Determined, I kept experimenting with spices and measurements until I found the perfect blend for me. I drink this nearly every morning, in place of that first cup of coffee.

I am a firm believer in the benefits of turmeric because I have experienced the difference it makes in my joint pain. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory, helps in the prevention of cancer and soothes the stomach. There are so many more benefits of turmeric but just make sure to buy trusted organic brands. There are many brands out there that have been proven to have lead in their spices. I like to splurge a bit on pure organic spices because feeling secure about what is going into my foods and what I and my loved ones eat is important to me. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk (you can use any non dairy)

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon raw unfiltered honey

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon cardamom

pinch ground cloves

pinch cayenne pepper

pinch black pepper

Blend everything in a blender. I use my NutriBullet. Once combined well pour into a small sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk continuously and heat until steaming. Serve.
